I just returned from dropping you off at the school to go to her very first high school competitive event--a Cross Country meet at Spalding County. Of course I regaled you with personal goals and making sure to pass people going up hill and kicking in the last 200 yards...but I have a feeling that all of that will go out the window once you put on a uniform and step onto the course. You'll see bunches of other people in the uniforms of their school, and the whole competition thing will crystalize for you, just as it has in soccer over the last few years.
I don't really have that "compete with other people" thing. I have an extraordinarily intense "compete with myself" thing which drives me like no one else ever could, probably to the detriment of many things...hopefully not you!
I'm going to do my back exercises, take a shower, grab my camera...and I'll be at Spalding County HS to take pictures and scream and be dad. And no matter how you do today, I'll cheer for you and be very, very proud of you...
