Okay, everyone pay attention...

and repeat after me...It's NOT About ME. What an incredibly key thought that is for those of us who can afford to think and practice it. Not everyone can, you know. The three quarters of the world that worries about making ends meet...or having clean water...or a place to live...they get a pass on this one. It's easy to insist that everyone drink this particular KoolAid, that everyone should be self deprecating enough. Of course, the insidious underlying agenda here is that we want others to accept that it's not about them, so it can, in fact, be more about us. What tricky creatures we are... It turns out that Maslow did have something when he came up with his pyramid of needs. Those of us blessed enough to be at or near the top of the pyramid need to focus on pushing the base of the pyramid upward, I think, all the while looking upward at the source of our--and their--hope.
